OUR BEACH RECOMMENDATIONS
Starting with one of our favorites, which we call the "secret beach", as it's quiet, off the beaten path, but is absolutely gorgeous...
Samrong Beach - It's the site of the famous "6th Sense" resort, and you can only get there by walking through one of the beach-front hotels. But don't worry, it's a public beach and anyone can come, just park on the road above. This secluded, quiet beach often has a bar open, and at times they put out bean-bag chairs and tikka lights for guests...a great evening with friends!
Silver Beach - Set in a charming little bay just north of Lamai Beach, this gorgeous, public beach is easy to miss because you have to walk through resorts to get there (we were living on the island over a year before we found it!). According to Thai law, even if you’re not staying at one of the hotels that line the beach, you still have free access to this tropical paradise, which offers great sunbathing, swimming and snorkelling. It's a "must visit"!
Bangrak Beach (also known as Bophut Beach and Big Buddha beach) - This long, sweeping beach is just minutes away from Villas Ocean Vista and Casa Bella. Great for running, sunbathing, or just relaxing... Along the beach are some great restaurants and bars, from low-cost Thai food, to full-on resorts. Our family personally love to go to some of the simple restaurants that are right on the beach (see our Villa Manual and Samui Guide), and this is the location of the famous "Chi Samui" beach club. On Saturday nights, they have a great fire show starting at 7pm, right on the beach, while you sit in a comfy chair sipping cocktails ;-).
Chaweng Beach - Just a few minutes'-drive from our villas, this long (7km!), spacious beach is one of Koh Samui's most well-known. The beach runs along the Chaweng "nightlife centre" of Samui, with its bars and restaurants catering to every taste. The beach itself is beautiful, with its white sand and palm trees, and is a must-see if you like a bit more action and "beach vibe". One thing: Because of its location, the sea sometimes brings in a lot of natural debris, which can make the beach look a bit dirty, along with poor water visibility - it really depends on the sea currents. Also, remember that, like many popular beaches on Samui, you may need to search a bit for a public entrance, since the beach is fully lined with resorts...
